Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) president, Dr. Lami Onayi Ahmed has reeled out a long list of top government officials and administrators across the country who are backing hosting this year’s All African Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Abuja.
Sports247 reports that, with just three weeks to go before the elite continental golf championship holds in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Ahmed said she is happy that her eight-point agenda as LGAN president is working.
Ahmed pointed out that the flagship of her achievements is winning the right to host the AACT in Abuja, as it will feature elite lady golfers and delegates from 30 African countries at the prestigious IBB International Golf & Country Club from November 2nd to 7th.
She added that the hosting venture has received support from the Senate, ministers, strategic partners, agencies and corporate bodies, with many high profile personalities having already endorsed the tournament, thereby giving her an early pass mark.
The LGAN supremo declared: “What we have achieved so far is not a one-off accomplishment. The eight-point agenda I set is not something you achieve at once; it is an ongoing target. You keep working on it, and you keep improving.
“This association started in 1996 and now in 2026, that is about 30 years. We have living heroines who are past presidents, who have all contributed their quota. We are doing our part now, and more leaders will come after us.
“Our eight-point agenda centres on financial prudence, membership engagement, improved activities and good governance. My team and I were both elected. Along with those appointed based on their expertise, we are doing our best to move the association forward.
“One of the most critical items on that agenda was hosting the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT). We bid for it two years ago in Morocco, and we have engaged stakeholders, and raised funds to host the participating countries. We are still working.”
Ahmed then specifically mentioned people who have been approached to support the upcoming tourney, which she described as an event of pride that would bring more honour and global attention to Nigeria.
“We have met a lot of stakeholders. We met the National Sports Commission, we went to meet the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, and we were recognized by the Senate President. He endorsed the tournament and pledged his support.
“We met the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, the Minister of Trade and Investment, and the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, who is also representing the FCT.
“We also met other strategic and institutional partners like the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies. All of them are excited and have endorsed the championship,” Ahmed expatiated.
