Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has charged the country’s beach soccer team, Super Sand Eagles to ‘deliver a strong performance away from home’ next weekend against Ghana in the second leg of their continental qualifier.
Sports247 reports that the charge came right after Coach Abdullahi Isa’s squad lost to their Ghanaian visitors in the first leg of the last phase qualifier for this year’s Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON 2026).
Against all permutations and much to the disappointment of NFF officials present during Saturday’s match at Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna, Isa’s side fell 4-5 via penalties shootout, after toiling during a thrilling 4-4 draw that went into extra time in The City of Crocodiles.
Nigeria’s Sand Eagles failed to supress the stubborn Ghanaians, despite a superb performance by Isa Hamza Manga, who scored a hat-trick for the hosts, as the home team battled fruitlessly to stay ahead of The Black Sharks.
Ekene Obi also hit the net in extra time for Nigeria, but Mawuli Sosu scored twice for Ghana and they stayed in the game when Wise Nyamadi struck an equaliser in extra time to ensure the encounter required penalties after ending level.
A report by NFF’s communications department added, “Ghana eventually prevailed 5-4 in the shootout, giving the Black Sharks an advantage heading into the return leg scheduled for Keta next Sunday.
“The Sand Eagles must now deliver a strong performance away from home to keep their hopes of qualifying for the continental tournament alive. The winner of the two-legged encounter will secure a place at the 2026 BSAFCON in Senegal.”
However, Sports247 reports further that the Sand Eagles face up an uphill task that could see history repeat itself, as they failed to qualify for the competition’s last edition after losing at home against Mauritania and could not upturn their deficit during the reverse fixture.
