Five mouthwatering fixtures headline Matchweek 1, with ten teams preparing for a fierce contest that promises explosive attacking football, tactical battles and potentially stunning upsets.
Action begins at 1:20pm, when former champions Abia Warriors confront Cross River Ikan Sports. The Warriors, who previously dominated the Showtime Bowl with consecutive championship victories, face opponents determined to prove they belong among the competition’s elite.
Cross River’s Praise Miene has already demonstrated his quality in league action, making this opening encounter particularly intriguing.
Rivers Alphas and Lagos Rebels meet in another fascinating contest. Rebels quarterback Sulaimon Alhameen has shown his attacking credentials this season, while the Alphas will be desperate to establish themselves as serious contenders.
Delta Panthers then lock horns with Ibom Raptors in a potentially unpredictable showdown. Both teams have an opportunity to make an immediate statement, with early momentum likely to prove crucial in the competition.
Perhaps the biggest spotlight falls on Gateway Horns against Lagos Knights.
The Knights enter with the reputation of reigning Showtime Bowl champions after crushing Abia Warriors 47–7 in the Series XIV final. Their championship pedigree, highlighted by MVP quarterback Kayode Mafe and attacking talent Fatai Praise, makes them formidable opponents, although Sunday’s participating players remain unconfirmed.
Lagos Greenbacks and Delta Braves complete the opening-day fixtures. Greenbacks will hope to reproduce the attacking brilliance that has made them dangerous opponents, while Braves have an opportunity to deliver a statement performance.
With flag football preparing for its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028, Showtime’s latest competition offers another showcase for Nigeria’s growing talent pool.
For supporters, the message is clear: expect intensity, fierce rivalries and surprises as the battle for 5v5 Cup glory begins.
