“Our Football Will Have a Rebirth” — Olopade Optimistic as Nigeria Awaits FIFA’s Final Decision on NFF Reforms

Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has expressed confidence that Nigerian football will emerge stronger from its ongoing administrative challenges, insisting that the country must patiently await FIFA’s final decision on reforms within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Olopade said the next step in the reform process had already been clearly established by football stakeholders and world football’s governing body, stressing that no further action should be taken until FIFA communicates its position.

“The next step has been very clearly stated by all stakeholders and FIFA themselves. It is for us to wait. We just keep waiting until we get a decision from FIFA,” Olopade said.

The NSC director general spoke amid growing anticipation over the outcome of FIFA’s consultations with Nigerian football stakeholders following the visit of representatives of the world governing body to the country.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the eventual decision, Olopade maintained that the process offers an opportunity for meaningful transformation in Nigerian football administration.

“I am optimistic that irrespective of what the decision is from FIFA, our football has a rebirth. Our football has a reset. Our football has a recalibrated system, which will lead to us having the reforms that are so needed by our football,” he declared.

His remarks underline the commission’s confidence that the ongoing engagement with FIFA can provide a foundation for addressing longstanding governance concerns and repositioning Nigerian football for sustainable development.

Olopade also appealed for patience, expressing optimism that the outcome would ultimately benefit the sport.

“Better days are ahead of us, but we just need to wait for the final decision coming from FIFA,” he added.

With stakeholders awaiting clarity on the federation’s future administrative structure, the NSC chief believes the priority must remain respect for the ongoing process.

For Olopade, FIFA’s eventual decision may determine the direction of the reforms, but his conviction remains unchanged: Nigerian football is approaching a new beginning.
