Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has returned to Atletico Madrid after completing his latest international assignment with Nigeria.
Sports247 reports that Lookman featured for the Super Eagles during their two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau before returning to Spain to resume club duties.
The forward was not included in Nigeria’s squad for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia, allowing him to return to Atletico Madrid ahead of the club’s upcoming fixtures.
Lookman resumed training with the Spanish side on Monday as the team stepped up preparations for its next competitive assignments.
His return to Atletico Madrid comes after another period of international football with Nigeria, where he remains an important attacking option for the Super Eagles.
The 28-year-old was involved in Nigeria’s AFCON qualifying campaign as the team continued its push for a place at the 2027 tournament.
Following his international commitments, Lookman has now switched his focus back to club football, with Atletico Madrid preparing for a busy period of fixtures.
His return to training provides the club with another attacking option as head coach Diego Simeone continues preparations for the challenges ahead.
Lookman’s ability to operate across the forward line has made him a valuable part of Atletico Madrid’s squad, and his return from international duty will be welcomed as the club looks to maintain its momentum.
For Nigeria, meanwhile, the forward’s absence from the Russia friendly means the Super Eagles will face the international assignment without one of their established attacking players.
Lookman will now concentrate fully on his club responsibilities, with Atletico Madrid’s upcoming fixtures providing his next opportunity to make an impact.
After representing Nigeria during the recent AFCON qualifiers, the forward is back in Madrid and ready to continue his club campaign.
