The Pride of Rivers enter the game on the back of two consecutive draws, having played out goalless draws against Ranchers Bees before securing a 1-1 result away to Katsina United. The results have kept Rivers United unbeaten after six league matches.
According to the Nigeria Premier Football League, Rivers United currently sit second on the league table with 12 points from six matches, recording three wins and three draws.
Their latest run, however, has come during a demanding period, with the Katsina United fixture coming just two days after the trip to face Ranchers Bees.
With Ikorodu City now arriving in Port Harcourt, Rivers United will be hoping their home advantage can help them secure all three points.
Ikorodu City will also come into the encounter with confidence after holding Sporting Lagos to a goalless draw in their most recent league outing. Before that, the Lagos-based side defeated defending champions Rangers International 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The visitors have shown that they can be difficult to break down this season, making Sunday’s contest another test for Rivers United’s defence and attack.
Rivers United have already produced their biggest league win of the season at home, defeating Kun Khalifat 5-0 on September 24.
They will now be aiming for another strong performance in front of their supporters as they continue their push near the top of the table.
With both sides looking for valuable points, the encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium promises to be a competitive Matchday 7 battle.
