The early shape of the Showtime Bowl Series XV could change dramatically on Sunday as Game Week 3 brings five intriguing flag football battles to Showtime Arena, with unbeaten contenders, recovering teams and winless sides all facing important tests.
After two weeks, defending champions Lagos Knights and Lagos Rebels have both opened 2-0, while Abia Warriors have been devastating, following their 41-0 opening victory over Rivers Alphas with a 53-2 demolition of Delta Panthers. Rebels have been equally impressive offensively, scoring 95 points across victories over Cross River Ikan Sports and Ibom Raptors.
But Week 3, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, offers another examination of the emerging order, with the league entering the final regular-season round before the first 5v5 Coed Cup event on October 11.
Perhaps the headline contest pits defending champions Lagos Knights against unbeaten Lagos Rebels. Knights survived a serious Greenbacks challenge 28-20 last weekend, while Rebels defeated Raptors 39-25. Something must give when two perfect records collide.
Rivers Alphas, meanwhile, will attempt to build momentum against Lagos Greenbacks after recovering from their Week 1 shutout with a 31-24 victory over Delta Braves. Greenbacks remain dangerous despite pushing the champions close last Sunday.
Cross River Ikan Sports face Delta Panthers after producing one of Week 2’s comeback stories, beating Gateway Horns 25-19 for their first victory. Panthers desperately need a response following their heavy defeat to Abia.
Gateway Horns and Ibom Raptors meet with both searching for a much-needed victory, while the final matchup sends Delta Braves against a rampant Abia Warriors side determined to maintain its perfect start.
Five games. Unbeaten records on the line. Teams already under pressure.
By Sunday evening, Showtime Bowl Series XV’s flag football title picture could look very different — because in Week 3, The Game Is The Show.
