Nairobi is set to become a major meeting point for Africa’s sports, media, entertainment and business communities in October as the Year of Return Africa (YORA) Summit & Expo 2026 brings entrepreneurs, investors, innovators and industry leaders to Kenya.
The 2026 programme, themed “Fueling the Future: Unlocking Africa’s Entrepreneurial Potential,” will feature activities in Nairobi and Kilifi, with the Nairobi programme now confirmed for October 13–14 at Broadwalk Mall, Westlands, while further activities are scheduled for Kilifi on October 16–17.

Significantly for Africa’s rapidly evolving sports industry, the organisers have confirmed that the sports segment will take centre stage on October 14, providing a platform for conversations around the business, commercialisation and future development of sport on the continent.
Among the programme highlights announced by the organisers is “Monetizing & Blueprints of Africa’s Sports, Media and Entertainment Industry,” placing questions around commercialisation, investment and the growth of Africa’s creative economy firmly on the agenda.
The summit comes at a time when African sport is increasingly being viewed not simply through the prism of competition and medals, but as an economic ecosystem encompassing media rights, sponsorship, athlete branding, digital content, event production, investment, technology and international partnerships.
Under YORA’s Creative Business — Film, Media and Sports theme, organisers say discussions and activities will explore sports diplomacy connecting African leagues to global brands alongside masterclasses in areas including production, financing and distribution.
The wider YORA programme is designed to connect African entrepreneurs and businesses with investors, decision-makers and international partners.
According to information published by the organisers, the summit will incorporate conferences, exhibitions, networking sessions, masterclasses, deal-making opportunities and side events.
For sports journalists, administrators, entrepreneurs, content creators and marketing professionals, the gathering could provide an opportunity to examine one of the biggest questions confronting the continent’s sports economy: how can Africa turn its enormous sporting talent and audience into sustainable businesses and globally competitive brands?
The organisers are also promoting a series of masterclasses as part of the 2026 programme, with both physical and virtual participation advertised for selected programmes.
Beyond sport, YORA 2026 will explore entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, international trade, financial literacy, film and documentary production and other sectors considered important to Africa’s emerging business ecosystem.
Another major component is networking.
The programme is expected to create opportunities for entrepreneurs, investors, corporate executives, policymakers, creative-industry professionals and innovators to meet through conferences, exhibitions, networking lounges and deal rooms.
YORA says its broader ambition is to move the idea of Africans and the African diaspora reconnecting with the continent beyond cultural engagement towards investment, entrepreneurship and long-term economic participation.
The organisers trace that philosophy to the momentum generated by Ghana’s 2019 “Year of Return” initiative, while positioning YORA as a platform focused on building commercial relationships and scalable ventures across Africa.
Following the October 13–14 Nairobi summit, attention is expected to shift to Kilifi, where the YORA Awards and related activities are scheduled for October 16–17.
The awards are intended to recognise individuals and organisations contributing to development and innovation across the continent.
For Nigeria’s sports and media industry, the Kenyan gathering could be particularly relevant as African publishers, sports organisations, athletes and entrepreneurs increasingly seek new ways of generating revenue from digital audiences, sponsorship, intellectual property and cross-border partnerships.
Media organisations will also have an opportunity to cover the programme. YORA states that journalists can apply for media passes through its accreditation process, with applicants expected to provide professional credentials, assignment information and proposed coverage plans.
With Nairobi already hosting major international sporting activities in October, YORA 2026 adds a business and knowledge-sharing dimension to what promises to be a busy month for African sport in Kenya.
For an industry rich in talent but still searching for stronger commercial structures, the conversations in Nairobi — particularly during the dedicated October 14 sports segment — could extend well beyond the playing field.
