All roads will on Sunday afternoon lead to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval on Lagos Island, as the highly exciting and hugely competitive Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series reaches what is expected to a be a pulsating climax.
Sports247 reports that Nigeria’s national team, Yellow Greens are using the competition as a preparation point ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja from October 18th to 25th.
The national players have been in camp under the guidance of Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) high-performance manager, Stephen Mangongo, who was unveiled in May after signing a three-year deal in place of Kenya’s Steve Tikolo, who left after more than three years in charge.
Heading into Sunday’s final, Nigeria’s main squad bounced back from an earlier defeat by their second team, Nigeria A, as they defeated their compatriots by two wickets in the reverse fixture on Friday and narrowed the gap between both sides to one point.
Chasing a target of 113, Nigeria reached 113 for eight in 19.1 overs to seal the win with five balls to spare, avenging their 19-run loss to the same opponent and had earlier been restricted to 112 in their 20 overs after being sent in to bat.
Day Four of the series produced a double dose of drama, as Sierra Leone also held off Ghana in a rain-affected contest and both results tightened the race, with Nigeria A remaining in first place on six points, while Nigeria’s main team and Sierra Leone sit level on five points each.
Ghana remain without a point after four matches, while Nigeria A look good with the strongest net run rate at +1.211 and Nigeria’s main team sit at +0.588, followed by Sierra Leone at -0.181; meaning all results on Sunday will be crucial, as the teams tussle for the summit.
In order to shore up spectatator turn out at the venue on Sunday, the NCF hit social media with a flush of promotional posts and an open invitation for cricket lovers and weekend revellers to turn up at the TBS Oval, where choice prizes await them, apart from the games on offer.
