Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has welcomed the injection of fresh faces into Nigeria’s squad, saying the new players have brought a different energy to camp as Eric Chelle’s men prepare to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Madagascar.
Chelle handed first senior invitations to George Ilenikhena, Moses Usor and Isaac James for the qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, adding new options to an experienced core that includes Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman.
Simon believes the newcomers have quickly settled into the group and added something different during training.
“The new guys have brought a different feel and spice to the team,” Simon said as the Super Eagles continued preparations in Uyo.
For the Paris FC forward, however, the positive atmosphere in camp must now translate into results when Nigeria host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday.
“We are ready for the game,” Simon said, making clear that Nigeria’s expectation is to secure maximum points from the opening fixture.
The 31-year-old is one of the most experienced members of Chelle’s squad and is expected to play an important role as the Super Eagles integrate their new arrivals.
Nigeria had 23 players involved in their opening training session, with the squad stepping up preparations for the Group L encounter.
Simon has also publicly assured supporters that the players are approaching the Madagascar clash determined to deliver.
“Rest assured that we will put up our best to win on Friday,” he said.
The Super Eagles will travel to Bissau after Friday’s match to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29, but Simon’s immediate focus is on ensuring Nigeria do not stumble at the first hurdle.
With new faces adding competition and established internationals providing experience, the winger believes the objective in Uyo is straightforward, start the qualifying campaign by taking all three points.
