Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) Ogun State Welfare Director, Adeleye Oluwatosin Olamiposi, has urged young footballers and aspiring coaches to remain committed, consistent, and determined if they want to build successful careers in football.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sports247, Adeleye stressed that talent alone is not enough to sustain a football career, advising young players and coaches to take their responsibilities seriously and strive for excellence in whatever role they occupy.
“My advice is that, whether you are a player or a coach, you have to be committed and consistent. Whatever you are doing, make sure you do it well,” she said.
The youngest state executive acknowledged that the journey in football comes with challenges, criticism and disappointing results. However, she encouraged young professionals to treat setbacks as opportunities to learn rather than reasons to give up.
Drawing from her own coaching experience, Adeleye explained that she responds to defeats by returning home to analyse the performance, identify mistakes and work on corrections before the next game.
“I make sure I go back home, assess what went wrong during the game, make the necessary corrections and prepare adequately for the next match,” she explained.
According to her, the ability to reflect, improve and prepare again is an important quality for anyone hoping to develop a sustainable career in football.
Adeleye also believes that young coaches must be willing to keep learning and step outside their comfort zones as they progress. For aspiring female coaches in particular, she encouraged them not to allow the challenges of the profession to discourage them from pursuing their ambitions.
Her involvement as an NFCA state executive has further strengthened her belief in the future of coaching and provided additional motivation to continue developing professionally.
“For now, that is one of my motivations to do more. Being part of the state executive gives me the assurance that there is still a future for me in my coaching journey,” she concluded.
For Adeleye, the message is simple: commitment, consistency, self-evaluation and a willingness to improve are essential ingredients for young footballers and coaches determined to make their mark.
