Ethan Nwaneri Joins Borussia Dortmund On Loan, Following Cold Shoulder At Arsenal

Arsenal’s Nigerian-born winger, Ethan Nwaneri has moved on loan to Borussia Dortmund of Germany, with the possibility of getting regular playing time in the German Bundesliga, as he is again surplus to requirements at Emirates Stadium.

Sports247 gathered that, just as it was last season, when Arsenal loaned him to Olympique Marseille of France due to his inability to tie down a regular spot in their squad, Nwaneri had to leave the English Premier League champions on transfer deadline day.

Nwaneri got an early hint that he would proceed to Germany in the extended transfer window for loan deals, but Dortmund moved faster to sign the youngster after making an offer in August to take him this summer.

The 19-year-old Nwaneri will now be keen on excelling at his newest port of call, as it is another upward step for the promising winger, who had an impressive breakout season in 2024-25, with nine goals and two assists in 37 games.

A report by BBC Sport adds, “The winger remains the youngest player in Premier League history having made his debut aged just 15 years and 181 days old against Brentford in 2022.

“With first-team opportunities limited, however, Nwaneri was shipped out on loan to Marseille for the second half of last season. He didn’t kick on as many had expected, and Arsenal were once again willing to let him leave before the end of the transfer window.

“(However, despite the youngster’s shut-out at Emirates Stadium), it’s understood that Mikel Arteta’s side aren’t currently looking to let Nwaneri leave permanently, despite reports suggesting otherwise earlier in the summer.”
