Nigeria’s Women’s Volleyball Team Coach Elishama Elam Demands More Determination From His Players At African Championship

The head coach of Nigeria’s female volleyball national team, Elishama Elam, has charged his players to continue showing determination in their last match at the ongoing African championship in Nairobi, Kenya, pointing out that they must not relax just yet.

Sports247 reports that Elam spoke in the wake of the squad’s stunning come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Championship, as they rose from two sets down to win the 9th-12th classification match.

Elam acknowledged that their last fixture of the ongoing competition is another classification fixture but urged his wards to give it equal importance as any other game before it, especially as they appeared heading for defeat when DR Congo took the opening two sets 25-20 and 25-22.

The Nigerian side then took the third set 25-21 and cruised to a 25-13 victory in the fourth to force a decisive fifth, which they won 15-13 in completing a remarkable 3-2 comeback, but Elam warned his players against complacency.

Elam praised them for refusing to give up and noted that the win was made possible through faith, fighting spirit and determination, which the gaffer charged them to continue in their last match of the competition.

“I feel so great, and I’m happy to be a Nigerian. We never say die. We give God all the glory because, obviously, this is the Nigerian spirit that keeps us going. We thank God because He did it for us.

“We will approach it with the same determination. Since it is going to be our last match, we will ensure that we give the last drop of our sweat on this court. We will give everything we have,” Elam submitted.
