Tosin Adarabioyo Set To Enact Rare Record In Transfer From Chelsea To Tottenham

Chelsea’s Nigerian-born center-back, Tosin Adarabioyo, is set to enact a rare record in the transfer of players between The Blues and their fellow London-based English Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Sports247 reports that this is a sequel to a strong possibility of the former Manchester City defender making a switch to Spurs should Kevin Danso leave, thereby giving Tosin the first transfer directly involving a senior first-team player between both clubs in 17 years.

Tottenham are hunting around late in the window for a new center-back after Danso asked to leave, thereby creating interest in Tosin, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and is free to leave after being left out of all three of their matchday squads this season.

Ironically, while Tosin appears to be surplus for requirements under Chelsea’s new coach, Xabi Alonso, he could turn out to be the saving grace for Tottenham, because they might need him urgently to fill in their home-grown talent limit as stipulated in the EPL’s rules.

It was gathered further that the likely exit of Danso would lower Spurs’ homegrown contingent to seven players, which is one below the minimum required by regulations in the EPL, hence talks about a likely switch for Tosin, to take the number back up to eight.

British tabloid, The Athletic adds, “Roberto De Zerbi’s side have reached an agreement with London rivals over a permanent move for the 28-year-old. It’s understood that the center back has already agreed on personal terms, and he has been granted permission to undergo a medical.

“Adarabioyo now looks set to become Tottenham’s ninth signing of the summer and could be followed by Mykhailo Mudryk. The defender’s transfer from Stamford Bridge to Tottenham marks the first time a player has moved between the two clubs since Carlo Cudicini in 2009.”

Sports247 also gathered that, although Tosin had 16 EPL appearances for Chelsea last season, only eight were in the starting 11, thereby giving him some reason to think about a switch to Spurs, who are looking in his direction after Danso said he would like to join Sunderland.
