Nigeria’s female handball national team have set their sight on achieving a bright start to their campaign at the maiden IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III Qualifiers scheduled for September 2nd to 6th in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Sports247 reports that this follows assurances provided by the team’s coach, Michael Taangahar while confiming a list of 16 players who will represent the country during the competition, following their preparations at Package B of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Taangahar will further knock his players into championship-winning shape during an upcoming tour of Benin Republic, where they will play some friendly matches before heading to Ouagadougou for the championship.
The squad will then hope to put up a strong performance in Burkina Faso, where their first game is scheduled to be against Ghana on Thursday, September 3rd, after which they tango the hosts on Friday in their second group game.
Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) press offficer and media commission vice-chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka Akisi disclosed that the 16 players selected for the championship include Bisi Oyewusi, Matthew Esther, Ahamefula Chinemerem, Sunday Hope and Ovetuo Rachael.
Others are Saaloo Daina, Audu Mercy, Emuore Enifome, Modebe Queen, Yusuf Toyin, Babatunde Taiwo, Ogbusimba Childera, Musa Sadiya, Nuhu Wuraola, Onyekwere Lucy and Muhammad Bilkisu, with Mike Taangahar as head coach, assisted by Innocent Chukwuma Nwankwo.
