The president of Nigerian Golf Federation (NGF), Otunba Olusegun Runesewe says the attention of everyone in the sector is now on the upcoming All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), which is scheduled to take place from Novermber 1st to 7th.
Sports247 gathered that the competition, which is billed to hold at the prestigious IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja, will feature golfers from all across Africa, and Runsewe assured that the NGF is ready support the hosts in staging a flawless event.
Runsewe furrher expresed strong enthusiasm ahead of the continental competition and commended Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) president, Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, for her ongoing efforts towards ensuring a successful prestigious event in the first week of November.
The NGF president gave the commendations while speaking during the second Nigeria Golf Stakeholders’ Summit in Abuja, where he enthused that another warm gathering will come up during the AACT contest, which he believes Nigeria will host seamlessly.
He went on to reveal a new method of approach towards the development of golf in Nigeria – with renewed focus on grassroots efforts, youth emgagement, empowerment of emerging talents and strategic partnerships, as the NGF seeks to build international standards for the sport.
Runsewe added that the summit, which was staged under the theme ‘Finding The Fairway: Sustainable Growth And Youth Development,’ was a very well organised and useful defining moment for Nigerian golf, with a new window of opportunity created for sustainable development.
“The recommendations and outcomes of the summit will form part of our broader efforts to establish a more structured and sustainable pathway for golf development in Nigeria, covering grassroots development, competitions, coaching, handicap systems, infrastructure and safety.
“We want to build a stronger, safer, better organised and internationally respected golf community in Nigeria,” Runsewe stated, while also disclosing plans to strengthen partnerships with airlines, hotels and logistics firms to improve the growth of sports tourism.
Sports247 reports further that Runsewe also spoke about creating opportunities for Nigerian golfers to compete internationally, while identifying youth development as a priority in the federation’s strategy of deliberate investment in young players to secure a bright future for golf.
