Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML) has shifted its attention to the Great Abeokuta 10KM Race, following the successful staging of the second edition of the Enugu City International Marathon on Saturday.
The company says it is determined to deliver another world-class road race in Abeokuta, with the iconic 10KM event scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Chief Mrs Yetunde Olopade, said the success recorded in Enugu has further strengthened the company’s resolve to deliver a memorable experience in the Ogun State capital.
“We are extremely proud of what we achieved in Enugu, but there is no time to rest. Our focus has immediately shifted to Abeokuta. The Great Abeokuta 10KM Race is an iconic event, and we have a responsibility to deliver another top-class show that the people of Ogun State and Nigeria will be proud of.
“Abeokuta is home to us, and we are looking forward to putting together another masterpiece. We want the athletes, spectators and the entire community to enjoy a race that meets the standards we have established over the years.”
The 2026 Great Abeokuta 10KM Race will start from Macjob Grammar School, Onikolobo, with the finish point at the MKO Abiola International Stadium.
The 2026 edition will be a strictly local race, with participation restricted exclusively to Nigerian athletes.
Despite the decision to make the race exclusively for Nigerians, organisers have confirmed that the total prize money remains unchanged, meaning Nigerian athletes will compete for the same lucrative financial rewards traditionally available to international elite runners.
The initiative is designed to provide Nigerian long-distance runners with a bigger platform to showcase their talent while promoting grassroots development and creating opportunities for emerging athletes.
Registration is currently ongoing via www.AbeokutaMarathon.com.
Physical registration forms will also be available for collection and submission at the All Stars Office, MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta.
