A young and hugely talented goalkeeper, whose parents hail from Benue State, Austin Monday Peter is creating waves at this year’s edition of the annual Seamoriow U15 Football Competition in Ikotun area of Lagos.
Sports247 reports that the youngster, who is now affectionally called ‘Marvellous Monday,’ put up yet another brilliant performance on Wednesday and helped his side eke out a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
That performance made him emerge as man of the match, while fans at the venue were unanimous in their verdict that he can help his team reach the final and win the competition this weekend.
Interestingly, though he features in goal for the host team, Seamoriow Football Academy, ‘Marvellous Monday’ grew up in a part of Lagos far away from the team’s base at Islamic area of Ikotun.
He was born in Agege, where he attended Oniwaya Primary School, then initially ascended to Iloro Secondary School, after which he switched to Abibatu Mogaji High School, all in Agege axis.
His father still lives in Agege, where he operates a commercial vehicle, but his mother is now based in Ogun State, thereby giving ‘Marvellous Monday’ a rare opportunity of enjoying the atmosphere of different communities as a youngster.
He disclosed in a chat with Sports247: “I am happy to be a goalkeeper and I am thinking about going far in football. I joined Seamoriow only three weeks ago after I came for their screening and I was selected.
“I am happy that they selected me and now I’m playing for them in this competition which they are organising. It will help me to continue growing as a keeper.
“I want to be great like Courtois and play for Real Madrid of Spain. I also want to make it big in football and be Nigeria’s number one in the Super Eagles.”
Fans at the arena known as Islamic Field will be on the look out for Monday Peter in subsequent matches for his team, as they became the first to pick two straight victories in this year’s edition of the competition that holds during the long holiday for Lagos schools.
