The race for qualification at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifying Tournament is heating up, with Nigerian champions Edo Queens facing a crucial test against ASEC Mimosas Féminines of Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Sports247 reports that the highly anticipated Group B encounter is scheduled for 4:00pm at Stade 4 Août, with Edo Queens needing another positive result as they continue their quest for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Edo Queens made an emphatic start to their campaign, dismantling AS GNN of Niger 7-0 in their opening fixture.
The Nigerian champions produced a dominant attacking display, with Chioma Moses leading the charge with a hat-trick. Anastasia Doosuur added two goals, while Aminat Folorunso and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring.
The commanding victory immediately placed Edo Queens among the early contenders in the group and gave head coach Kennedy Boboye a strong foundation for the remaining fixtures.
ASEC Mimosas, however, enter Thursday’s encounter under greater pressure after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana in their opening match.
The Ivorian side must therefore respond against Edo Queens if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The match also carries an interesting Nigerian connection, with ASEC Mimosas attacker Peace Ikediuba expected to feature against her compatriots. The Nigerian forward recently joined the Ivorian club from Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens after spending last season on loan with Nasarawa Amazons.
Ikediuba wore the No. 9 shirt and started ASEC’s opening defeat to Ampem Darkoa, and she will now be hoping to make a decisive contribution against the Nigerian champions.
For Edo Queens, the objective is clear: maintain their momentum and secure maximum points before turning their attention to their final group fixture against Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
Coach Boboye has already warned that the remaining matches will be tougher, despite the team’s impressive opening victory.
With qualification stakes rising and both sides having contrasting fortunes in their opening games, Thursday’s clash promises to be a fascinating encounter.
Edo Queens have made their statement. Now, they must deliver again when ASEC Mimosas stand between them and another major step towards continental glory.
