Edo Queens head coach Kennedy Boboye has praised his players for executing their game plan but insisted there is still room for improvement after the Nigerian champions demolished AS GNN of Niger 7-0 in their opening Group B fixture at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifying Tournament in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Sports247 reports that Edo Queens delivered a commanding performance, scoring seven goals without reply to make an emphatic statement in their quest for another WAFU-B title and qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Speaking to the media after the match, Boboye said his players followed their tactical instructions and deserved credit for their performance.
“Yeah, the girls played to instructions,” the coach said. “The only thing that counts is getting used to your chances.”
Despite the seven-goal margin, Boboye believes Edo Queens could have produced an even bigger scoreline had they been more clinical in front of goal.
“The goals are not a surprise to me. We have been scoring more goals in our preparations. We should have scored more because we lost some chances,” he explained.
The coach also revealed that his technical team had limited information about AS GNN before the encounter, forcing the Nigerian champions to approach the game without extensive knowledge of their opponents.
“We didn’t have any information about the team earlier. We only took the game as it came,” Boboye said.
Edo Queens dominated the contest from the opening stages, with Chioma Moses scoring a hat-trick, while Atume Doosuur contributed a brace. Aminat Folorunsho and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring as the Nigerian champions cruised to an emphatic victory.
However, Boboye has already shifted his attention to the remaining group matches, warning his players that the challenges ahead will be significantly tougher.
“This game is done and sorted. We look forward to the next game because the two remaining group matches are tougher, and we need to win,” he stated.
With the opening victory secured, Edo Queens will now begin preparations for their next Group B fixture, with Boboye stressing the importance of maintaining their momentum and improving their finishing.
“We will start working on our next game and take our chances for the maximum points,” he added.
The emphatic victory gives Edo Queens an ideal start, but Boboye knows the real test lies ahead as the Nigerian champions continue their pursuit of continental glory.
