Nigeria has stepped up efforts towards the selection of players and preparation of a team that will make the country proud at the upcoming 2026 Africa MiniFootball Confederation (AMC) Women’s Nations Cup, billed for September in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Sports247 reports that the next step towards getting a crack team that will represent the nation creditably will come up this weekend with an exhibition match in Agege area of Lagos.

This was disclosed by the general-secretary of Nigeria MiniFootball Association (NMFA), Sheriff Tajudeen, who affirmed that all officials of the body are putting in extra efforts to ensure that the country presents a formidable team for the competition.
While asserting that they aim to build a team that is capable of winning the championship in Yaounde, Tajudeen revealed that Nigeria’s maiden minifootball women’s national team will line out for a build-up match this Sunday as part of activities marking the end of the 2026 league.
He pointed out that the league was a useful platform to enhance the selection of quality players ahead of the six-a-side continental championship, whih will serve as qualifier for the WMF Women’s World Cup, ahead of which NMFA is stepping up its preparations.
The scribe further pointed out that, apart from serving as a very credible platform for the selection of players to form Nigeria’s first national team, the league helped the NMFA to reinforce the expansion of MiniFootball in the country and seek ways of extending its impact beyond the borders.
However, while noting that Nigeria will compete along with Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Benin Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and hosts Cameroon during next month’s continental showpiece, Tajudeen confessed that inadequate funding is a big worry for the NMFA.
“Funding is one of our major challenges. I’m using this opportunity to call on sports authorities, individuals, corporate enterprises and friends of MiniFootball to be our partners by giving us their financial support in making this task achievable.
“We are indeed making good progress since we embarked on this process of developing MiniFootball. Nigeria is a big name in sports and, as such, our reputation as the ‘Giant of Africa’ has placed us in a strategic position to make a mark and excel in what we do.
“That’s why all efforts are being directed at presenting a solid squad for the Africa MiniFootball Confederation Women’s Nations Cup taking place in Yaounde, Cameroon. This opportunity excites us. That’s why we are not holding back at getting the best legs to wear the colour of our flag.”
