NNL Chairman George Aluo Confirms Owerri As Host Of Second-tier League’s Opening Match In New Season

The chairman of the Nigerian National League (NNL), Chief George Aluo, has confirmed that Imo State capital, Owerri, will serve as the venue of the opening match for this season in the second-tier division on October 31st, following its successful hosting of the NNL’s annual general meeting.

Sports247 reports that Aluo gave the assurance while heaping praise on the Imo State government for the cordial reception they gave all delegates to the NNL’s AGM, which he said was made possible through Governor Hope Uzodimma’s commitment to sports development.

While affirming that the NNL remains unwavering in its mission to improve and reposition the nation’s lower division football league, Aluo reiterated that successfully hosting the AGM in Owerri was an indication that his board will organise yet another promising season.

Aluo stated, “The AGM went very well, and we give God all the glory. Our vision and mission have always been to make the league better. I can see that, with the way this AGM has gone in Owerri, we are in for another good season.

“Let me express my gratitude to the Imo State Government for giving us an enabling environment to host a successful AGM. I think this probably will be the best AGM that we’ve had since we came on board. This is courtesy of the Imo State Government under Governor Hope Uzodimma.

“I can boldly say that it is part of their commitment towards sports development, especially football. I’m proud to be part of it and to be from this state, the Eastern Heartland. Thank you to His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Onwa Oyoko.”

Aluo also noted that the delegates witnessed developments taking place in Imo State and confirmed that the NNL will soon return there for the official and single opening match of the new season, which will feature Heartland of Owerri against Crown FC of Ogbomosho.

“All the clubs that came here have seen that Imo is getting the dividends of democracy. Interestingly, we are coming back here again for the season’s opener, which will be Heartland against Crown FC. I wish all the teams the very best of luck ahead of the kick-off date,” Aluo enthused.
