Iloenyosi Denies Involvement in Reported NFF Normalisation Committee

Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has denied any involvement in a purported list circulating in connection with a proposed normalisation committee for the Nigeria Football Federation.

Iloenyosi said he had no knowledge, involvement or consent regarding the nomination list in which his name was reportedly included, and has consequently dissociated himself from the document.

The development comes amid heightened uncertainty surrounding the NFF’s electoral process. Reports emerged this week that the National Sports Commission (NSC) had moved to halt the NFF election scheduled for September and was considering a temporary normalisation committee to oversee the federation’s affairs.

However, reports have also noted that FIFA had not confirmed any decision to install a normalisation committee, leaving the situation subject to further developments.

Against that backdrop, Iloenyosi moved to make his position clear, insisting that he was not consulted and had not agreed to serve on any such committee.

“I have no knowledge, involvement or consent regarding the purported nomination list currently circulating.”

The Anambra FA chairman urged the public to disregard the list insofar as it concerns him, stressing that his name should not be interpreted as confirmation of any appointment.

The controversy comes at a sensitive time for Nigerian football, with the proposed intervention following mounting criticism of the NFF leadership and the country’s recent national-team setbacks.

The NFF had originally been preparing for its elective congress, with electoral and appeals committees inaugurated earlier in the year to oversee the process. The election had been scheduled for September in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Any move to replace or suspend the electoral process would also carry significant implications because of FIFA’s rules concerning the independence of member associations.

For now, Iloenyosi’s position is that he has not accepted, endorsed or participated in any proposed normalisation committee, and that any list suggesting otherwise should not be attributed to him.
