Anambra State Plans ‘Sustainable Sports Ecosystem Where Young People Can Discover Their Talents’

The government of Anambra State has set an elaborate plan in motion that would lead to the emergence of a ‘sustainable sports ecosystem where young people can discover their talents’ and gain far-reaching support to make them useful for their various communities.

Sports247 reports that this revelation came from the state’s commissioner for sports and youth development, Patrick Agha Mba, while showering plaudits on their taekwondo team for excelling at the recent national championship in Lagos, where they garnered top ratings.

While receiving the successful contingent at his office in the state’s capital, Awka, Mba added that the team – which comprised Oranye Chibikem, Chizaram Nwafor, Kamsiyochukwu Eke, Melvin Obilo, Chimbuodogwu Nwafor and Kamsiyonna Nwamara – made Anambra proud.

He added that, apart from bringing in a proud moment for the state, they also showed what can be achieved through hard work, as Oranye continues waxing strong, after clinching gold medals in three consecutive editions of the National Youth Games.

Similarly, 14-year-old Nwamara has become the first athlete to win bronze in the heavyweight category at the national trials, while the contingent, which was led by Coach Jude Nwafor, also presented a trophy for ‘Best Committed Team To The Development Of Taekwondo.’

The commissioner said he was delighted that Anambra State retained top spot at the championship, as it marked the third consecutive edition in which they emerged as the leading team, which he added is a confirmation of their growing strength in sports development.

He further disclosed that the government plans to establish academies across all local government areas to strengthen sports development at the grassroots and discover more talents, while butressing the need to sustain investment in youth empowerment through sporting activities.

Mba retorted, “I congratulate you for your outstanding performance. You have shown discipline, hard work, determination and commitment to excellence. Mr Governor is working effortlessly to create an enabling environment for sports and youth development to thrive in the state.

“His vision extends beyond winning competitions. This administration is working to establish a sustainable sports ecosystem where young people can discover their talents, develop professionally and pursue sports as a viable career. These academies will provide young athletes with structured training.

“(They will also aid) professional development and access to the support required to compete at the highest levels. I encourage our athletes to remain focused and disciplined and be assured that the state government would continue to distinguish itself through sports.”
