Team coordinator of the Cameroon women’s national team, Dimitry Lipoff, has hailed the Indomitable Lionesses’ hard-fought victory over Nigeria, describing the result as a major confidence boost for the squad at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Cameroon secured a 1-0 quarter-final victory over the Super Falcons in Casablanca, ending Nigeria’s title defence and advancing to the semi-finals against hosts Morocco.
Lipoff said the Indomitable Lionesses had endured difficult matches throughout the tournament and that the team’s ability to overcome Nigeria demonstrated its determination and competitive character.
“We have not had an easy game in this tournament, from the group stage through to the quarter-finals. That has pushed the players to give everything in every match,” Lipoff said.
The Cameroon official acknowledged the quality of the Super Falcons, describing Nigeria as one of the strongest teams on the continent.
“We respect Nigeria. They are one of the best women’s national teams in Africa, so getting this result against them is a big boost for our confidence,” he added.
Cameroon produced a disciplined defensive performance after taking the lead, frustrating Nigeria’s attempts to find an equaliser and securing a place in the last four.
The victory represents a significant step forward for the Indomitable Lionesses, who will now face host nation Morocco in the semi-finals as they pursue a place in the WAFCON final.
Lipoff believes the confidence gained from eliminating the defending champions will give Cameroon further belief as the team prepares for another demanding encounter in the final stages of the competition.
