The second vice-president of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Akuchukwu Aghazu has joined her voice to ongoing reflections about the country’s outing at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where she recalled that the nation’s athletes all desmonstrated total commitment.
Sports247 reports that Aghazu noted further that the good attitude among Nigeria’s atthletes began from their preparation camp in Abuja, to Lagos, then Aberdeen and continued throughout their events at Glasgow 2026, where she confirmed that they all showed immense dedication.
Aghazu also praised the contingent for putting up an impressive outing at the Games, which she described as a reflection of quality preparation provided by National Sports Commission (NSC) and unflinching discipline among the atthletes from their build-up until end of competition.
While noting that the athletes remained focused on achieving success for the country, Aghazu also hailed the NSC’s welfare package, even as she reserved special praise for the Commission’s director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade, whose leadership she described as invaluable.
Aghazu recounted enthusiastically, “The availability of funds, as well as the prompt payment of allowances and bonuses, boosted the morale of everyone. It allowed the athletes to concentrate fully on competing.
“Honourable Bukola Olopade was exceptional before and during the Games. His advice, motivational words and problem-solving abilities came at the right moments. He ensured that the athletes and officials had the support they needed to perform at their best.
“From the preparations to the end of the Games, our athletes demonstrated total commitment and dedication. Their work ethic was exceptional, and the relationship between the athletes and officials was excellent throughout the competition. Their unity contributed greatly to our success.”
