As celebrations continue and reflections start regarding the nation’s outing at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, the president of Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Jibril Saidu Ojih haa opined that success achieved by each sport should boost all stakeholders in the country to work harder.
Sports247 reports that Ojih stated this in his congratulatory message to National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade on Nigeria’s seventh place finish on the final medals’ table after the Games in Scotland, but urged all federations to work even harder.
Ojih added that all factors that saw Nigeria emerge as the highest-performing African nation, with a total haul of 24 medals – 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze – should be seen as a clear reflection of the new direction of sports administration in the country under the NSC’s current leadership, which he described as commendable.
He reaffirmed the HFN’s continued support of the NSC’s efforts in taking Nigerian sports to greater heights and expressed confidence that the Commission will build on the Glasgow success by strengthening athlete welfare, investing in talent development and enhancing preparations for future competitions.
The HFN president further praised the athletes, coaches and officials for their dedication throughout the competition, where he said they demonstrated the immense talent Nigeria possesses, while also confirming that, with the right support, the country’s athletes can consistently compete with the world’s very best.
“On behalf of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, I heartily congratulate the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Mr. Bukola Olopade, for this remarkable achievement.
“Our athletes have once again made the nation proud. Their determination, discipline and fighting spirit were evident throughout the Games. This success should inspire every sports federation to work even harder.
“Finishing as the highest-ranked African nation and seventh overall is a proud moment for Nigeria. It’s a testament to the Commission’s vision, commitment and strategic leadership,” Ojih submitted.
