A symbolic connection between Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and the management of Vido 99 FC of Lagos has been cited as a massive boost for the club, as they seek to create a big impact in the state’s saturated youth football scene.
Sports247 gathered that, aside from information shared among the players and their fans that Osimhen has an ‘extended family connection’ with the club’s owner, they also have the technical acumen of their coach, Ifeanyi Kingsley Amadi (aka Sample) to count on.
Fondly called ‘Coach Sample,’ the gaffer at Vido 99 comes with immense experience gained as an understudy to the famous grassroots football tactician, Osahon Emokpae, as a player under him on the National Grassroots Dream Team and as his assistant at Young Stars FC of Satellite Town, both in Lagos.
After also playing for some years at Vejle Football Academy in Ojo, Lagos, Amadi ventured into coaching and joined the technical crew of Paddysco FC in Ago Palace, where he became head coach before joining Vido 99 in Surulere.
‘Coach Sample,’ who was as hard as nails central defender during his playing days, and a captain with Golden FC of Ijesha at Olympic Field, near God’s Chosen Church headquarters, is now the head coach at Vido 99 FC, where he is ably assisted by Ismaila Bakare.
They will both bark instructions from the sidelines to their talented array of players this Thursday, when the team plays their next match in this year’s 1xBet Cup at Aspire Stadium, Oshodi, Lagos.
“I believe it’s a match we are going to win,” said Coach Sample, “We’ve trained so hard for it, and the boys are determined to showcase their talents.
“We stepped up our training at Abalti Barracks in Surulere since last week, and I am sure that we will get a good result on Thursday. There’s no distraction and no obstacles facing us.”
Sports247 gathered further that, unlike many youth clubs in Lagos that nowadays lure young players with promises of league matches and international trips, Vido 99 prides itself strictly on football development activities.
