Nigeria’s U-18 Boys Volleyball Team recorded an impressive 3-1 victory over hosts Egypt to take control of Group at the 2026 African U-18 Boys Volleyball Championship.
The Nigerian youngsters produced a disciplined and dominant performance to overcome Egypt in one of the standout fixtures of the competition currently taking place at the Pioneers Club from July 20 to 30, 2026.
Nigeria raced into an early advantage by claiming the opening two sets 25-20 and 25-16, showcasing superior attacking play and solid defensive organization against a highly-rated Egyptian side.
The hosts responded strongly in the third set, edging Nigeria 25-22 to reduce the deficit and raise hopes of a comeback.
However, the Nigerian team remained composed under pressure and regained control in the fourth set, sealing a deserved 25-21 victory to complete an impressive 3-1 triumph.
The result marks Nigeria’s second consecutive win of the tournament after opening their campaign with a convincing straight-sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-18) victory over Morocco.
Egypt had also entered the encounter in confident mood following a dominant 3-0 win against Burundi in their opening fixture.
With victories over Morocco and Egypt, Nigeria has now emerged as one of the early favourites in Group A and significantly boosted its chances of progressing to the knockout stage of the championship.
The African U-18 Boys and Girls Volleyball Championship has brought together 14 national teams from across the continent, serving as a platform to showcase Africa’s brightest young volleyball talents while also offering qualification opportunities for future international competitions.
Nigeria’s victory over Egypt not only strengthens their position at the top end of Group A but also sends a strong message to the rest of the field as the competition enters its decisive stages.
The Nigerian team will now turn its attention to its remaining group fixtures, aiming to maintain its unbeaten run and secure qualification for the quarter-finals with momentum firmly on its side.
The championship continues through July 30, with the continent’s best young volleyball teams battling for continental honours and qualification to global youth competitions.
