Glasgow 2026: Team Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Team Receives World-Class Chairs Ahead of Commonwealth Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has boosted Team Nigeria’s preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by providing world-class tournament wheelchairs to the country’s women’s wheelchair basketball team.

The specialised equipment was delivered on Tuesday at Team Nigeria’s training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, as part of the Commission’s high-performance programme designed to ensure Nigerian athletes are fully equipped ahead of the Games.

The latest intervention underscores the NSC’s commitment to giving Team Nigeria the tools needed to compete on equal terms with some of the world’s best athletes when the Commonwealth Games begin on July 23, 2026, in Glasgow.

The newly delivered tournament-standard wheelchairs are expected to enhance the performance of the Nigerian women’s wheelchair basketball team as they prepare to represent the country on one of the biggest sporting stages in the Commonwealth.

President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission for what he described as an unprecedented level of support for the nation’s athletes.

Johnson said the provision of world-class equipment, alongside the quality camping programme in Aberdeen, reflects the Commission’s determination to give Team Nigeria the best possible preparation for Glasgow 2026.

Team Nigeria has been camping in Aberdeen as athletes across various sports intensify preparations, with the NSC continuing to roll out initiatives aimed at maximising the country’s medal prospects at the Commonwealth Games.
