Nigeria Team News

Head coach Eric Chelle has assembled an experimental 27-man squad largely made up of Nigeria Premier Football League stars, fringe European-based players, and a few new invitees.

The tournament presents Chelle with an opportunity to test new tactical ideas and expand the depth of the Super Eagles squad ahead of future AFCON and World Cup assignments.

Several established stars including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze are absent from the squad, while regular goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye were left out.

One of the major talking points ahead of the game is the expected debut of Arthur Okonkwo, the Wrexham goalkeeper who recently switched allegiance to Nigeria.

FC Midtjylland goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri has also been drafted in to provide competition.

Zimbabwe Ready for Upset

Zimbabwe head into the fixture in confident mood under coach Kaitano Tembo.

The Warriors are unbeaten in their last two matches and believe they can upset Nigeria on neutral ground.

Midfielder Marshall Munetsi has already spoken about the importance of the game to Zimbabwean supporters living in the UK.

Head-to-Head

Nigeria have historically dominated this fixture with four wins and two draws from six meetings against Zimbabwe.

However, recent meetings between both nations have been far more competitive, with the last three encounters ending in draws, including tense FIFA World Cup qualifying clashes.

The winner of the encounter will qualify for the final on May 30 to face either Jamaica national football team or India national football team.
