Nigeria’s Flamingos have returned to camp in Ikenne after their ruthless 5-0 demolition of Guinea in the first leg of the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers played in Abidjan.
The young Nigerian side produced a commanding display away from home, with Harmony Chidi stealing the spotlight after netting a brilliant first-half hat-trick. The prolific forward struck in the 1st, 13th and 40th minutes to put the Flamingos firmly in control of the encounter.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added the fourth goal in the 37th minute before Mary Dunstan wrapped up the emphatic victory with Nigeria’s fifth goal in the 56th minute.
The impressive result left the Flamingos with one foot in the next round as the team now shifts attention to completing the job on home soil.
Following the victory in Abidjan, members of the Nigerian Embassy visited the team at their hotel to celebrate the memorable performance with the players and officials.
The Flamingos later departed Côte d’Ivoire through Lomé, Togo, before arriving in Lagos on Sunday night. The team has since returned to camp in Ikenne where preparations have intensified ahead of the return leg.
Meanwhile, the second-leg fixture against Guinea has been rescheduled and will now take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, instead of the earlier proposed May 30 date.
The decisive encounter will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium with kickoff slated for 4pm.
With a comfortable five-goal cushion already secured, the Flamingos will be aiming to finish the task in style and move another step closer to qualification for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
