Born in Waterford, Ireland, Oseni was eligible to represent Ireland, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria at international level due to his heritage. However, the talented striker has now chosen to commit his international future to the Super Eagles.
His invitation follows an impressive breakout campaign with Plymouth Argyle, where he emerged as one of the club’s standout attacking players during the season.
Across 33 appearances, the forward recorded 15 goal involvements, scoring 10 goals while also contributing five assists in a productive season that attracted growing attention from football observers.
Oseni has earned praise for his explosive pace, direct attacking style, energy, and ability to thrive in transition situations — qualities that have made him one of the exciting emerging forwards to watch.
Although still developing aspects of his all-round game, the striker’s performances have clearly impressed the Nigerian technical crew led by Éric Chelle, who decided to hand him a late call-up to the national team setup.
The invitation presents a major opportunity for Oseni to make an early impression at senior international level as Nigeria prepares for important test matches against strong European opposition.
His addition also reflects the Super Eagles’ continued efforts to strengthen the squad with young dual-nationality players competing abroad.
Football followers will now be eager to see whether the Plymouth Argyle attacker can translate his club form onto the international stage and potentially make his senior debut for Nigeria during the upcoming fixtures.
The Unity Cup and June friendlies are expected to provide the coaching staff with an opportunity to evaluate several emerging talents ahead of future competitive assignments, including the AFCON POMOJA 2027 qualifiers.
For Owen Oseni, however, the call-up already represents a significant milestone in his career — one that could mark the beginning of his journey with the three-time African champions.
