The exciting player from Hørsholm in Denmark is one of 32 men in the highly anticipated singles race, along with 32 women, as the top seeds began their tussles on Thursday in the main draw of the 2026 Contender in Lagos.
The competition, which was launched on June 12th, 2023, has been staged for three consecutive years, building on the legacies of Lagos International Table Tennis Classics and ITTF Nigeria Open, which was established in 2013.
All eyes are again on Lind, who is buoyed by his strong showing at the recent World Team Championship in London, is known internationally for his creative playing style, exceptional spin control and has a historic comeback story.
He is currently ranked World No. 17 in the ITTF Men’s Singles and plays for Borussia Dortmund table tennis club in the German Bundesliga, where he wows fans with his ‘strawberry flick shot’ that has an unpredictable sidespin on the ball.
In March 2021, Lind suffered a severe car accident that broke two of his vertebrae and doctors doubted if he would ever walk again but, following rehabilitation, he returned to win a team bronze medal at the 2021 European Championship.
He subsequently achieved a career-defining breakthrough by reaching the quarter-finals of the 2023 World Table Tennis Championship in Durban, South Africa and won his maiden WTT Series title at the 2025 WTT Contender Lagos.
Lind also represented Denmark at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in both singles and team events, then recently helped lead his country to the round of 16 stage at the 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championship in London.
