“There are no more small teams in African football,” Obodo said.
According to the former midfielder, Nigeria must begin preparations early and avoid any form of complacency despite perceptions that the group appears favourable.
“Preparation must start immediately,” he implied.
Obodo stressed that several African nations have improved significantly in recent years, making qualification campaigns far more competitive than before.
“Every country is improving now,” he noted.
The former Super Eagles star also emphasized the importance of mentality and seriousness throughout the qualifiers.
“You cannot relax against anybody,” he added.
Nigeria will enter the campaign under pressure to impress supporters after recent disappointments on the international stage.
“The expectations will always be high,” many football observers believe.
Obodo believes the Super Eagles possess enough quality to qualify successfully if the team maintains focus and professionalism.
“The talent is there,” he stressed.
For the former Nigerian midfielder, the message is clear.
Respect every opponent.
Start preparations early.
And avoid complacency completely.
Because AFCON qualification is no longer guaranteed for teams that fail to prepare properly.
