Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will begin their campaign at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany with a Group B clash against South Korea on September 4.
The schedule released ahead of the global tournament shows that the reigning African champions will face Hungary a day later on September 5 before rounding off their group stage fixtures against European powerhouse France on September 7.

The competition is scheduled to hold from September 4 to 13 in Berlin, Germany, where the Nigerian side will aim to build on their growing reputation on the world stage.
D’Tigress qualified automatically for the tournament following their dominance in Africa, having won a record fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title. The team also remains the highest-ranked African side in the FIBA women’s rankings.
Under head coach Rena Wakama, the team has continued to gain international recognition after impressive performances in recent global competitions, including their historic run to the quarterfinals at the Olympic Games qualifiers and strong outings against top-ranked nations.
Nigeria will open their campaign against an experienced South Korean side before taking on Hungary in what could prove a decisive fixture for qualification into the knockout stage.
Their final group game against France is expected to be the toughest test, with the Europeans regarded among the favourites for the title.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation has also intensified preparations for the tournament, with D’Tigress participating in high-level exhibition games and training camps aimed at sharpening the squad ahead of the World Cup.
Key players expected to lead the team include captain Ezinne Kalu, Amy Okonkwo and Murjanatu Musa as the African champions seek another memorable outing on the global stage.
