A Pillar of Nigerian Football Is Gone’ — SSA Adeboye Mourns Ex-NFA President Ibrahim Galadima at 78

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President of the Nigeria Football Association (now Nigeria Football Federation), Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, describing his death as a monumental loss to Nigerian sports.

Alhaji Galadima, a revered sports administrator, died at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy of service, integrity, and remarkable contributions to football development in Nigeria.

Reacting to the sad news, Adeboye paid glowing tribute to the late football icon, noting that his impact on the growth and administration of the game remains indelible.

“This is a very painful loss for Nigerian football. Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima was not just a leader, he was a builder of systems, a mentor, and a man whose contributions laid a solid foundation for the growth of the game in our country.”

Adeboye highlighted Galadima’s distinguished service across various levels of sports administration, from his time as Chairman of the Kano State Football Association to his leadership as President of the NFA between 2002 and 2006.

“He served Nigerian sports with dignity, discipline, and unmatched commitment. His leadership style was defined by integrity and vision, and his influence continues to be felt across generations of sports administrators.”

The presidential aide further described the late Galadima as a father figure whose guidance shaped many leaders within the Nigerian sports ecosystem.

“He was a mentor to many of us. His wisdom, experience, and fatherly advice were invaluable. Nigeria has lost a great mind and a true patriot of the game.”

Adeboye also emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of pioneers like Galadima, whose contributions helped shape modern Nigerian football.

“We must continue to build on the legacy he left behind. His life reminds us of the importance of service, leadership, and commitment to national development through sports.”

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the entire Nigerian sports community.

“I pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, and the entire football family the strength to bear this great loss.”
