Imo State’s Commissioner For Sports Honourable Reveals Achievements After ‘Barely Two Years’ In Office

The commissioner for sports in Imo State, Honourable Obinna Evaristus Onyeocha (Onowu) is counting his blessings and revealed a long list of achievements he has gained in ‘barely two years’ of his tenure.

Honourable Onyeocha said he is satisfied with his journey so far in charge of sports in The Heartland State, but assured that there is more to come.

Onyeocha added in an exclusive interview with Sports247 at his office in the State’s capital, Owerri that his biggest achievement has been in reviving the values of grassroots sports within his jurisdiction.

The amiable and humble commissioner stated, “So far, so good. I’ve been commissioner for sports in Imo State for barely two years now, but we’ve already achieved many great things.

“Within that period, we’ve seen a lot of improvements in the sports sector, especially with grassroots sports. More attention is being given the grassroots since I came in as commissioner.

“We have organised an under-13 boys’ competition, which we started last year. During the competition, we were able to discover a lot of talents.

“We tagged it catch them young and most of the talented players were discovered from secondary schools. They are all currently doing well in their development.”

He then protected into the future, with a verdict that the competition’s discoveries will soon excel on a global scale, while also stating that Imo State will continue producing talents for Nigeria’s male and female youth national teams.

“We were able to discover 65 talented, who I am 100% sure will, I’m the next five to six years will form a strong team for Imo State.
