G12 FC Academy delivered one of the biggest shocks of the 2026 Lagos FA Cup, knocking out defending champions Inter Lagos with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in their Round of 16 clash on Tuesday.
The young and fearless G12 side continued their remarkable run in the competition, proving their giant-killing credentials after already eliminating Sporting Lagos in the Round of 32.
In a tightly contested encounter, G12 FC showed discipline and composure beyond their years to edge past the more experienced Inter Lagos side, whose title defense came to an abrupt end.
G12’s journey in the tournament has been nothing short of impressive. After battling past Sporting Lagos via a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw, they also recorded a 2-1 victory over Power of de Cross earlier in the competition, underlining their status as the surprise package of this year’s edition.
The result marks a significant moment for grassroots football, as the academy side continues to rise against more established opposition in the Lagos football scene.
For Inter Lagos, who recently secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), attention will now shift to their preparations for top-flight football after their cup exit.
Meanwhile, G12 FC march on with confidence and growing belief, sending a strong message to the remaining teams in the tournament, they are not just participants, but serious contenders for the title.
