260 Appearances, 96 Goals: 30 Years Old Obaje Reveals Longevity Secret, Targets Golden Boot, NPFL Title

Godwin Obaje has attributed his enduring presence in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to discipline, faith, and hard work, as the experienced forward continues to shine for Rangers International.

With over 250 NPFL appearances and 96 goals to his name, Obaje remains one of the league’s most consistent performers.

The 30-year-old striker believes his ability to stay grounded has been crucial to his longevity at the top level.

“I think what keeps me going is God and prayers, hard work, and self-discipline. For anything I am doing, discipline is very important,” he said.

Obaje is not just reflecting on his journey, he is targeting a historic finish to the season. The Rangers forward has set his sights on winning both the NPFL title and the Golden Boot.

Currently on 11 league goals, he is level with Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City and Emeka Obioma of Abia Warriors in the race for the top scorer’s award.

“I believe I can win the highest goalscorer award,” Obaje stated confidently. “But my main target is to see my team win the title because we have many young players who now have the chance to win their first major trophy.

That would be life-changing for them.”

Built on Experience

Since making his NPFL debut in the 2014–2015 season with Wikki Tourists, Obaje has carved out a well-travelled and productive career.

He has featured for clubs including FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Plateau United, Abia Warriors, and Tunisia’s JS Kairouan.

His career has also taken him abroad to AS Trenčín, Sidama Coffee SC, and Oman Club, but it is in Nigeria where he has made his biggest impact.

Obaje has often pointed to Zlatan Ibrahimović as a role model, drawing inspiration from the Swedish icon’s longevity and elite mentality.

With Rangers firmly in the title race and the Golden Boot within reach, Obaje’s experience and goalscoring instincts could prove decisive in the closing weeks of the campaign.

“My target is to score as many goals as possible to help my team,” he added.

As the season heads into its final stretch, Obaje remains a key figure in both the title race and the battle for individual honours.
