A shock 5-1 win away to Arthur Okonkwo’s Wrexham on Tuesday in South of Wales took The Saints one spot above their hosts into sixth place in England’s second-tier league, thereby restoring Edozie’s hope for a promotion ticket.

Incidentally, the mammoth win came on the same day Okonkwo was cleared by FIFA to play for Nigeria, but the keeper still had a gallant outing for the hosts in spite of conceding five goals on the night.

Conversely, Edozie, who played 58 minutes of Tuesday’s game on Southampton’s right flank before he was replaced, is an England youth international and featured for The Three Lions at the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.

For now, his mind is basically on how he and his colleagues will keep their feet on the throttle all the way till the final whistle in the Championship, while also noting their date in the FA Cup semi-finals against Manchester City.

That fixture was made possible by Southampton’s stunning victory over Arsenal last weekend, such that Edozie is achieving with the Saint Mary’s squad what the Super Eagles’ trio of Josh Maja, Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu could not pull off during their days with the club in the EPL.

A report by BBC Sport adds in part, “Wrexham finally showed signs of life in attack after the half-hour mark. They almost reduced the Saints’ lead when Max Cleworth’s cross found Nathan Broadhead, whose glancing header struck the post.

“They did pull a goal back a minute later as Okonkwo’s long punt upfield was flicked on by Kieffer Moore, and Windass showed great composure to slot beyond Daniel Peretz.

“The second half was a far more even affair – with Okonkwo doing enough to keep out Larin’s shot, before Cleworth’s deflected strike sailed wide at the other end.

“But just as Wrexham’s momentum was growing, Larin intercepted Lewis O’Brien’s pass before charging down on goal and firing beyond Okonkwo. The strike was Larin’s fifth goal since joining on loan from Mallorca on transfer deadline day in February.”

Sports247 gathered further that Edozie is eagerly looking forward to promotion and a shock spot in the FA Cup final with Southampton, as he aims to make the best of his decision to cut short his loan spell at RSC Anderlecht of Belgium at the start of this year.
