NOC Plans Using ‘Physical Activity To Bridge Generational Gaps

Officials of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) have set in motion a strategic plan that aims to use physical activity to bridge generational gaps among sports talents of various age categories in the country, Sports247 reports.

This was disclosed by the NOC’s media officer, Tony Nezianya, who expatiated that this year’s Olympic Day celebration will be used as a global platform to show Nigerians of all ages the benefits of sports and other physical activity.

Nezianya added that the day will be used to highlight that undertaking regular exercise is a vital pillar of health, while also offering Nigerians of all ages the rare opportunity to embrace the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

He further disclosed that the NOC will organize the historic day, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 27th, under auspices of Olympic Solidarity and Sport- For-All Commission, as part of a premier campaign that focuses on inclusivity.

“Following the record-breaking participation seen in 2025, the NOC has officially dispatched invitation letters to all States of the Federation. State Sport Councils are encouraged to begin preparations immediately.

“(They are) to ensure a high-impact event that reaches every nook and corner of the country. The NOC aims to highlight how simple activities like jogging and walking can burn calories, tone muscles, and effectively de-stress the mind.

“The NOC invites corporate organisations and philanthropic individuals to support the initiative through financial donations or product partnerships. Partners will gain significant brand visibility and an opportunity to align with unity and wellness.

“Exercising is far more impactful when shared. (That’s why we are) issuing a clear call to action for every participant to invite someone new to join them in getting active and gain beyond the immense benefit to public health,” Nezianya stated.

NOC’s president, Engineer Habu Ahmed Gumel also highlighted that this year’s goal of the Olympic Day is to bridge generational gaps by using physical activity to foster meaningful connections between youth and older people.
