Rovers Football Club of Calabar have been involved in a serious road accident while travelling to Lagos for their Nigeria National League (NNL) fixture against Sporting Lagos.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, near Asaba, when the team bus reportedly lost control and tumbled along the highway.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded. However, several players, technical crew members, and club officials sustained varying degrees of injuries. One player is said to be in critical condition and is currently receiving intensive medical care.
The team was en route to Mobolaji Johnson Arena, where they were scheduled to face Sporting Lagos in a rescheduled NNL fixture.
In an official statement, the club management described the incident as a “painful moment,” emphasizing that the immediate priority is the health and recovery of everyone involved.
They also expressed appreciation to fans and the wider football community for their prayers and support.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria National League (NNL) board has postponed the fixture indefinitely following the incident.
Reports indicate that the match had already been under consideration for rescheduling due to venue-related concerns.
Further updates on the condition of the injured players and a new match date are expected in the coming days.
