Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna endured a disappointing outing at the 2026 ITTF World Cup in Macao, suffering a straight-sets defeat to Japan’s Sora Matsushima on Tuesday, March 31.
The Group 6 clash saw Matsushima dominate proceedings from start to finish, securing a 3-0 victory with set scores of 12-10, 11-3, 11-5.
Despite a competitive opening set, Aruna struggled to keep pace as the Japanese youngster raised his intensity, comfortably taking the next two sets to seal the win.
The result compounds a difficult campaign for the Nigerian star, who had earlier lost his opening match in straight sets to Tomislav Pucar.
With back-to-back defeats, Aruna’s hopes of progressing from the group stage were effectively ended, marking an early exit from the tournament.
Once again, the African number one found the level of competition in Macao challenging, as younger opponents showcased superior speed and consistency throughout the matches.
