We Deserve Better!’ Mendy Launches CAF Attack — Senegal Star Slams Leadership Over AFCON Chaos

Senegal international goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has delivered a blistering criticism of the Confederation of African Football, accusing its leadership of failing to match the rapid progress of African football on the pitch.

Speaking after Senegal’s friendly against Peru at the Stade de France, Mendy did not hold back as he addressed the growing controversy surrounding recent AFCON-related decisions.

For the former African champion, the issue is clear, while African football continues to produce world-class players and increasingly competitive teams, the administrative side of the game is lagging behind.

“The football is improving, but the leadership is not,” he implied, pointing to what he sees as a troubling disconnect between performance on the field and governance off it.

Mendy highlighted the strides African football has made in recent years, with players excelling at the highest levels of the global game and national teams becoming more formidable.

However, he believes these achievements are being undermined by persistent issues within CAF’s leadership structure.

His frustration reflects a wider sentiment among players and fans who feel that controversies, inconsistencies, and governance challenges continue to affect the credibility of African football.

For Mendy, the stakes are high.

When administrative decisions overshadow performances on the pitch, it not only impacts teams but also damages the reputation of the sport across the continent.

“We deserve better,” his comments suggest — a call for reforms that match the ambition and quality of African football itself.

The goalkeeper’s outspoken stance is likely to intensify pressure on CAF, particularly at a time when scrutiny of its decisions is already high.

While officials may defend the processes in place, voices like Mendy’s highlight the growing demand for transparency, accountability, and modernization.

As African football continues to evolve, the question remains, can its leadership keep pace with its talent?

For now, Mendy’s message is loud and clear.

The game has moved forward.

And it’s time for those in charge to do the same.
