Bethel Sporting secured their place in the playoff after finishing second in Group A, sealing qualification with a crucial 1–0 victory over 36 Lions FC — their second win in three matches. Reflecting on the group stage, Uche described the decisive match as a turning point.
“Today’s game was an opportunity to move a step ahead. It was a derby, and our concentration really helped us secure the win.”
The young shot-stopper also admitted that their narrow 1–0 defeat to Klassisch Football Academy in the opening game remains a painful memory, as it denied them a chance to top the group.
“Losing that first match was painful. We could have topped the group if we had managed a draw, but finishing third is still something we can build on.”
Looking ahead to the clash against Ikorodu City, Uche emphasized his readiness to rise to the occasion.
“I will be very focused, calm, and decisive to help my team overcome our opponents.”
Beyond the immediate fixture, the goalkeeper highlighted the broader importance of the competition, describing the Jagaban Cup as a key platform for young players aiming to break into professional football.
“This tournament is top-notch in grassroots football. It gives young players the opportunity to move to Europe and pursue professional careers.”
On his personal ambitions, Uche remained grounded but optimistic about a future with the national team, especially amid discussions around goalkeeping depth following Stanley Nwabali’s recent absence.
“I was once invited to the U17 camp, and I will continue to work hard and stay focused.”
He also revealed his inspirations, naming David de Gea and Manuel Neuer as his role models.
As the third-place match approaches, Uche’s confidence and ambition reflect the hunger driving young talents eager to seize their moment on a growing stage.
