Sports247 reports that Adeniyi gave the assurance while speaking during the opening ceremony of the 4th Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, which he said underscores his administration’s priorities.

Adeniyi, who is also the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service and chairman of World Customs Organization, emphasized that the AFN’s current leadership is committed towards ensuring proper welfare for all wrestlers.

While also assuring the country’s wrestlers of a packed calendar and more national competitions before the year ends, as part of broader efforts to develop wrestling across the country, Adeniyi announced financial incentives for them.

He then disbursed over ₦20m in subsidies to participants, and explained that the money is meant to keep the wrestlers motivated and focused, for them to remain fully engaged in the sport with discipline and dedication.

Adeniyi also revealed that, as part of a promising era for Nigerian wrestling, with new initiatives in the pipeline to elevate the sport to greater height, every registered athlete at the championship would receive an allowance of ₦25,000 each.

The allowance comes in addition to comprehensive feeding arrangements that had already been put in place by the hosts, Bayelsa State government, while participating teams will also benefit from travel subsidies to ease their transportation logistics.

“As I have always maintained, the welfare of our athletes is central to our approach as a federation. Every athlete who participates in this Wrestling Classics is a winner,” enthused Adeniyi, while adding that all medallists will get extra cash rewards.
