This was revealed in a press release heralding the highly-acclaimed gathering of special sports competitors in the country, during which participants will feature in 15 events, making it one of the largest pools of para-athletes in Nigeria’s history.
The media statement added that Para-Games 2026 will feature para-athletics, wheelchair basketball, para swimming, amputee football, sitting volleyball, para powerlifting, and wheelchair tennis, among others.
Organized by the National Sports Commission (NSC), the event has continued to evolve as a critical platform for talent discovery, national unity, and preparation of athletes for international competitions.
The games, which demonstrate Nigeria’s growing commitment to inclusivity and development of para-sports nationwide, will also help the country spot talents for African championships, Commonwealth Games and Paralympic Games.
NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, alongside the director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade, is expected to lead the opening ceremony on Saturday at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
