Sports247 reports that, while Acuff Jnr tops the log with 36 points, Oweh is joint second on 35 points apiece with AJ Dybantsa of Brigham Young University, as the race hots up in the search for honours during NCAA’s ongoing ‘March Madness.’

It marks an amazing improvement for Oweh, whose previous best marks came on February 26th, 2025, when he got Kentucky’s final 18 – as he hit 28 points and netted the game winner with six seconds left against his former team, Oklahoma Sooners.

A citation by Yahoo Sports noted in part, “Kentucky’s Otega Oweh made sure he never has to buy himself a drink in Lexington again with a buzzer-beating heave in a thrilling Wildcats win over Santa Clara in the first round of the tournament.

“That shot only accounted for three of his 35 points in the game. Oweh hit one of the best NCAA tournament buzzer-beaters to force overtime in The Wildcats’ 89-84 win over Santa Clara. The senior guard had eight rebounds and seven assists on top of it.”

Sports247 recounts that Oweh first shot to prominence at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey, where he helped the team to a 17U Peach Jam title, totaling 17 points and five rebounds in the championship game.

The four-star recruit then soared in college basketball at University of Oklahoma, from where he moved to Kentucky on April 27th, 2024, and scored a team-high 21 points on his Wildcats’ debut against Wright State.

In his first season with Kentucky, Oweh emerged as the team’s leading scorer, with an excellent junior season that included 26 consecutive games and had him scoring in double figures.
