Leading the shower of accolades, Nigeria’s top-ranked player, Daniel Adeleye said the competition was a wonderful innovation in the duty of introducing tennis to young talents while they are still in school.
Adeleye reasoned, “It is a good initiative. I wish I had such opportunities during my school days. It is encouraging to see students from different schools compete. I am happy to watch my juniors play.
“Where I come from, it was not easy. I fought my way through and still believe I can improve. Stay humble and believe in yourself. With hard work and determination, success will come.”
In similar vein, a tennis coach and school proprietor, Adeyemi Olaniyan noted that the competition was well-organised and drew a lot of participants, while the players put-up top-quality performances in all the games.
“It has been awesome. The quality of play is impressive, and the organisers have done well to bring these children together. I did not expect this quality. Schools are now investing in proper training, which is good for the sport,” Olaniyan submitted.
Sports247 gathered that Yahaya Isah beat Heman Afaramai 6-2, 6-4, 10-7 to win the boys’ category, while Ndifreke Benjamin got the girls’ title with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Success Godwin – after which N100,000 went to each winner and N50,000 for runners-up.
